The Entertainer

Written by Aydan Heitman (n.d.)

The sound of exposed wires crackling. The squeaking of hinges as I move. I hear the heavy steps I take landing hard on the tiles. The pain is almost unbearable as metal and flesh meld together. I feel my skull crushed in the head of the machine, my intestines trying to slide out of the stomach hatch.
What did I do to deserve this? I remember how i cheered up kids wearing these fucking spring-lock suits. Their laughter. Their smiles. It's all that keeps my sanity together. I stop and look at these animatronics. I am basically one of them now, these lifeless machines that are only good for entertainment.

What was that? There was a sound down the hallway. Is someone here? This late at night? “W-w-who is t-t-there?...” I say out mechanically, brokenly and glitchy with gurgling from my vocal cords trying to work with the speakers. “Leave… before.. It's too… late…” I struggle speaking coherently as I force my vocal cords to speak.

There is suddenly a loud bang of something clattering to the ground in the kitchen, it's only then I realise one of the animatronics is missing. “I-i-interesting…” I mutter with a sting in my throat.

The Viodscape

Written by Aydan Heitman (n.d.)

I walked on top of the vast blue ocean, nothing for as far as I could see, each and every small movement or correction would create ever growing ripples in the otherwise still ocean. Even if the water were to try and swallow me, I would remain perfectly dry, as if I were on land.

Is this even real?

Step after step, an attempt of escaping.

Am I even moving?

Those thoughts had plagued me the whole time I moved forwards, searching and searching.

Surely there is an exit somewhere

That had been his first thought to die, but it won’t be the last. Step after step after step, everything around him stays the same, the clouds above him unmoving even with the cold ocean breeze, the only change being the inconsistencies in the ripples he created with each step as he continued his never-ending journey. His eyes wandered downwards to the depths of the ocean, even through the unusually heavy darkness, he could see that there were no fish bringing life to the ocean.

Drowsiness had started to kick in as he wandered. He was afraid of what would happen if he fell into a slumber in this barren ocean.

Would I wake up in my bed? Would I sink into this abyss of an ocean?

These thoughts are what pushed him to stay awake. But for how long? Each step further got heavier, his eyes started to weigh more and more until his vision blurred and he fell forward, breaking the surface of the water. It felt like he had landed on concrete.

Cold…

This was his last thought before everything faded to nothingness. It felt like he was sinking for days, weeks even. Yet all he could see was the never ending darkness surrounding him. Its grip on him was cold and harsh, threatening to plunge him into the deepest darkest depths.

I try to scream but my voice is muffled and drowned. I’m frantically trying to grab onto something, anything until I slowly lose consciousness and fade into this void.

When I open my eyes I see snow and trees everywhere.
